What Can Damage Your Floors

Throughout the 10 years that I have been in the cleaning service industry I have come to the conclusion that it is essential to know how to properly take care of all floor surfaces. With experience it became clear that 100% cotton is the best and most effective way to clean hard floor surfaces. It is also the safest way to clean hard floor surfaces. Before beginning on learning how to take care of all floor surfaces I must say that it is best to clean most floors with hot water. It is not a good idea to clean your floor with detergents or any disinfectants. These products may destroy the sealant on the floor. There is no need to disinfect your hard floors; the only floors that contain billions of germs are carpets but when it comes to hard floors you don’t need to worry. DO NOT listen to T.V. commercials … all they want to do is make you feel guilty about germs so that they can sell their products.

To start off, you should always do research on the cleaning products that you plan on buying. However, today must be your lucky day because all the research was done for you and all you have to do is read along. The information found is not only from hours of research but from people that have already used the product and caused damage to their floors with the product.

Micro Fiber is a fabric that has been demonstrated to you on T.V. commercials as the greatest product ever invented to clean hard floors. Don’t get me wrong, this fabric is great to clean glass or mirrors but not hard floors. Micro Fiber is made out of 85% polyester … in other words plastic, because that is what polyester really is which means that if you were to use it on your hard floor it would damage it by leaving scratches behind. On the packaging of Micro Fiber it clearly states “warning DO NOT use this product on any kind of sealed or painted surface”. Once you read this warning you should automatically know not to use it on your floor because hard floors have a clear coat of paint and sealant. This is why it is very important to read product’s warnings. Micro fiber is not a product that should be used on hard floors.

If this product damages a hard wood floor you have to sand it and refinish it which would be expensive. If you had a laminated floor you would be obligated to replace your floor. A marble floor, if scratched would be a big problem because you cannot restore it. And a linoleum floor would have to be stripped and waxed.

Another product that isn’t good to clean hard floor surfaces is pre-moistened towel mops. These towel mops are not good to clean floors because they are so thin that they are unable to do a good job cleaning the floor. Also as you mop with this product you’re leaving sticky residue behind and it will cause the sealant on your floor to start deteriorating overtime.

There are many detergents out there to clean hard floors but the truth of the matter is that any kind of detergent can damage your floor. Detergent softens the sealant on wood, linoleum, and laminated wood flooring. That is why when you use detergents to mop your floor after it dries it feels sticky under your foot. That is evidence of your floor being damaged and as time goes by your floor will lose its shine. The only solution after the damage is done is to refinish your wood floor.

If you use any kind of detergent on a tile floor it is the worst thing you can do to your floor. When you use detergent on a tile floor your floor will begin to look dirty after being cleaned because, it works into the porous crevices of tile floors making it impossible to remove.

The one product that can be used on all hard floors without fear of damaging it is cotton dust mops. The cotton dust mop is the safest and most effective way to clean your hard floors because its long strings help prevent any scratches. This product helps polish your hard floors and leaves your floor so shiny you can see yourself in it. Learn for yourself about proper hard floor care. It is the best way to maintain your floor looking as good as new. Not only will your maintain your hard floor but you will also save money by not having to pay for repairing damage done to your floor.
