  • Dust lighting fixtures and remove cobwebs
  • Use a disinfectant cleaner to wipe down points of contact (like doorknobs and counters) and horizontal surfaces
  • Tidy any reading materials you may offer such as magazines, flyers and brochures
  • Wipe fingerprints from light switches and door frames
  • Spot clean windows, glass and any painted surfaces around the reception area
  • Remove debris and vacuum and/or wipe down any seating
  • Take out the trash and replace with a new bag
  • Vacuum or sweep and mop all floors

Do These Weekly:

  • Clean windows and glass (such as doors)
  • Polish metal or wood items

Do These Quarterly (Minimum)

  • Schedule exterior window / building cleaning
  • Schedule deep cleaning for floors (hot water extraction for carpet or steam clean for tile)

  • Vacuum air vents
  • Wipe down stall walls and doors with a disinfectant cleaner

Kitchen and Lunchroom

Most customers will not see these areas, but that doesn’t mean they don’t need to be kept clean. While kitchens and lunchrooms can be one of the most difficult areas of the office to maintain, it’s also a matter of everyone’s health. So set rules for this communal area and find a way to enforce them.

Do These Daily:

  • Clean the sink
  • Wipe down horizontal surfaces (tables, chairs, counters, etc.) with a disinfectant
  • Organize any items like sweeteners, condiments, or napkin holders that may be left on these surfaces

  • Wash the coffee pot(s)

  • Clean out the fridge (inform employees that anything not taken home by the end of a certain day will be thrown away unless it’s something that’s regularly used and marked, such as a bottle of ketchup or salad dressing)
  • Replace any cleaning paraphernalia like sponges that harbor bacteria

Cubicles, Meeting Rooms, Private Offices

Encourage everyone who attends a meeting to take their trash out with them. Whether or not they see customers in their cubicles or at their desks, these spaces should also be kept tidy. Remind employees to clean their mouse, keyboard and monitor periodically.
