Get Rid of Clutter: 1st Class Tips to Keep Your Home Organized

Get Rid of Clutter- 1st Class Tips to Keep Your Home OrganizedYou’re trying to get your home in order, but you don’t know where to start. You feel like it would be easier if you had the right organizational containers, but the truth is that you may not need to spend any money. The best way to get organized often involves getting rid of clutter. Here are a few tips to help you take the first step and start letting go of items that you no longer need or want.

One-In and One-Out

This little rule can be used to limit how much stuff comes into your house. If you’re buying new tennis shoes because you need them, then you have a pair of ruined ones at home that you can throw out. Whenever you bring home a new shirt or jeans, find another one in your closet that you can donate.

Work in Small Areas

The thought of decluttering the whole bedroom can be overwhelming, but you can easily start with one dresser. If you’re still overwhelmed, then start with just one drawer. You can methodically move through the home working on just one small area at a time. Make it a point of finishing each task completely before moving on to the next one.

Give Yourself a Number Challenge

Pick a random number between 10 and 20. Every day, challenge yourself to give away, toss out and put away that many items. If you choose the infamous number 13, then you’ll find 13 items for the thrift store, toss 13 pieces of trash and put 13 items in their proper place. Making it a game makes it easier to do, and you’ll be impressed at how this daily activity starts to make a difference.

The Magic Questions

There will be items that make it hard to make a decision. When you find that that you’re stuck about whether to keep something or not, ask these questions:

• Do I use it?
• Do I need it?
• Do I love it?

If the answer to all three is no, then you can safely get rid of the item. If it’s still serviceable and someone else can use it, then donate the item. Otherwise, just toss it away and create some more open space. Another magic question you can ask yourself is if you’ve used it, needed it or even thought about it in six months or a year. If the answer is no, then you know that you can live happily without it and let it go.

As you eliminate the clutter, it will become easier to organize your home. You may not even have to go out to buy extra shelves or bins because you’ll create open space in your closets and drawers.
