Removing Bathroom Odors

Sometime the odor in the bathroom can take on a life of its own, making your bathroom the one room you don’t want to enter. Whether it is from the user or the room, there are lots of things you can do to get rid of bathroom odor. It does not have to be expensive or difficult to do this and here are a few inexpensive ideas to have your bathroom smelling clean and fresh in no time.

  1. Install a fan. If your bathroom does not have a fan, consider installing one. It is not difficult or expensive to do. A fan can help circulate air in the room and help to reduce odors faster.
  2. Clean any mold or mildew. Because the bathroom is a space with lots of water, it is easy for mold and mildew to accumulate quickly. You can use an all-purpose cleaner or even bleach diluted with water. Use this mixture to clean all tile, as well as the tub, sink and even the floor. Be sure to get the corners, as this is a place where mildew and mold love to hide. Doing this on a regular basis (weekly) should help to reduce odors.
  3. Make sure all drains are cleared. Another cause of odor in the bathroom is water that remains in sinks or bathtubs. By removing any blockage, like hair or other buildup, you can get rid of odors. You can also remove bathroom odor by using any commercial product that unclogs drains. Usually these are inexpensive and easy to use. If there is not a blockage slowing water down, you can also try to pour white vinegar or bleach down the drain to kill any odors that may be lurking in the pipes. Baking soda may also help with this.
  4. Make sure water is not living anywhere. Sometimes, the caulk that surrounds tubs, toilets or sinks is old or cracked, allowing water to remain. This can be another source of odor. Try removing the old caulk, dry the area and put in fresh caulk. This can help you to get rid of any leaks or places for water to remain, a key source of bathroom odors.
  5. Consider an odor eater. There are products that can help to mask any odors that you may have in the bathroom. Air fresheners, candles or even a spray product like Lysol can neutralize or mask any bad odors you may have in the bathroom. If you buy a product that remains in the bathroom, be sure to change it on a regular basis so you can continue to enjoy the fresh scent.

The bathroom is a room in your house where controlling odor can be an issue. But removing bathroom odors is easy and inexpensive. With simple household products you can buy in the grocery store or the hardware store, you can remove bathroom odors quickly and easily. Get started today and you can have the clean, fresh smelling bathroom you have always wanted to have.
