Why You Need to Make a Cleaning Playlist (And 50 Songs to Get You Started)

file3631234971421Cleaning the house can definitely be a chore, which is why it’s important to find ways to make it a bit more fun. Whether you turn it into a game with your kids or your spouse, use it to exercise, or give yourself a reward for getting everything done, there really are ways to make it more enjoyable.

And really, it all starts with attitude.

A poor attitude is one of the biggest barriers to getting your cleaning done (much like anything else in life, right?). If you’re feeling down or tired, chances are you don’t feel motivated to anything besides plop on the couch and flip on the tube.

But we have a solution, thanks to science! Studies show that upbeat music is one of the best and quickest ways to change your mood.

Feeling unmotivated? Put on a song that usually makes you dance.

Feeling tired? Put on a mellow song that still has that upbeat vibe to shake yourself out of it.

Let yourself get into it. Don’t be afraid to feel silly! Laugh at yourself. Laughter – even the fake kind – can actually boost your mood, too!

And then once you’ve got one song picked out, create a playlist with maybe 10-20 other songs that will keep you feeling peppy.

Just don’t take too long making your selections! This isn’t meant to be an exercise in procrastination.

To help you avoid that, we’ve even come up with a list of our own favorites. Use them to get your playlist started or, if you already have a song in mind, put it on now and get cleaning!

A mish mosh of genres, we did our best to avoid Top 40 hits after the year 2000 to give you a list you won’t find anywhere else. Sample a few, use them all, or create your own! You can even check out Spotify for pre-made playlists that were specifically made for cleaning.
